On March 8, the Miami Symphony Orchestra presents American Promise at the Knight Concert Hall, a program inspired by the compelling work of composer Karen LeFrak and presented in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Led by Maestro Eduardo Marturet, the concert reflects on the ideals of freedom, unity and aspiration that have shaped the American story, expressed through a powerful dialogue between contemporary compositions and symphonic masterworks.

At the heart of the evening is a reflection on America as an evolving artistic idea—one shaped by vision, imagination and the pursuit of new horizons. The program traces this journey through music that looks both forward and back, honoring the past while engaging with the present.

The evening features the world premiere of Marcos Campos Salas’s An American in Miami, a 2026 MISO commission. With subtle wit and rhythmic vitality, the work captures the spirit and character of Miami, offering a musical portrait that is at once personal and unmistakably American.

A defining moment of the program is Unity & Glory (Concacaf Anthem) by Maestro Marturet. Specially commissioned by the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf), the anthem is conceived as a ceremonial work—bold, dignified and forward-looking—designed to accompany moments of collective significance on an international stage. Its presence in this program reinforces the concert’s central theme: music as a force that gathers, elevates and affirms shared purpose.

The program concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, From the New World, a landmark work that reflects an outsider’s encounter with America and remains one of the most enduring musical expressions of discovery, ambition and hope.
